Our Story

How This All Started

In 2002, we — Corey Bennett and Amber (Bennett) Dickey — organized a charity tournament for our dad, Roy Bennett, who was battling stomach cancer. We wanted to raise money to help cover the cost of holistic treatments he planned to receive in Mexico after conventional chemotherapy had failed. His treatments and mounting medical bills had completely drained our parents’ bank account.

Sadly, our dad lost his battle in January 2003. Despite the devastating loss, we knew we wanted to turn our grief into something positive. We decided to honor our dad and carry on his legacy by continuing to host a charity golf event each year. The proceeds are donated to a Madison County resident who is facing an unfortunate diagnosis of cancer.

We remember all too well the stress, the anger, the sickness, the guilt, the hurt, the sadness, the sleepless nights, and the helpless feeling of watching someone you love suffer. We also remember the financial burden — scrambling to pay for any possible treatment in the hope of saving our dad’s life. Cancer treatments are outrageously expensive, and being able to hand over the money we raise to a family going through what we experienced is one of the most rewarding feelings we can describe. It fills part of the hole left in our hearts by the loss of our hero — our dad.

This charity gives us the chance to pay it forward. It also brings our extended family together to volunteer, reconnect, and remember all the loved ones we've lost to cancer. Our dad’s family has been hit especially hard by this disease — we have lost 10 immediate family members to cancer to date. That painful reality makes our mission even more personal and meaningful.

We love and miss every one of you. Rest in peace.
